The Student Engagement staff advise several of the student organizations that we work most closely with and serve as general resources for students and staff alike.

Dirron’s spirituality, incredible partner, two children, and commitment to helping others are his priorities in life. He grew up in a military family and had the privilege to explore different parts of the world. Dirron considers Woodbridge, VA to be his hometown. He graduated from JMU with a B.S. (Sport Management) in 2000. He completed his M.S. (Higher Education) from Mississippi State University in 2003. He has been employed at Temple University, Towson University, and joined UVA in March of 2016.  His interests include basketball, volleyball, Star Wars, the MCU, and lifelong holistic wellness.

Michelle received her B.S. in Mathematics from Davidson College, where she first developed her love of programming boards and college unions, and her M.A. in College Student Development from Appalachian State University. She’s had the pleasure of working at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Davidson College and most recently, UVA. Fun fact: Back in the day, Michelle used to work in Housing & Residence Life at UVA as an Area Coordinator. Michelle loves the vibrant buzz of the PAC and seeing students learn and grow during their time at the University. While she works most closely with the University Programs Council and the University Board of Elections, Michelle more generally supports the programmatic side of the Student Activities Office. She currently lives in Charlottesville, Virginia with her husband and two rescue dogs. In her free time, she enjoys doing calligraphy, practicing yoga, and can frequently be found playing board games on Tuesday nights.

Ashley had the fortunate experience of growing up in Charlottesville. Her family also lived in the Charlotte area in North Carolina and then a suburb of Dallas, Texas when she was in high school. Ashley began her undergraduate career at Southwestern University and transferred to Elon University where she received her B.A. in Elementary Education (Go, Phoenix!). Ashley worked at Louisburg College after graduating from Elon and went back to school at Appalachian State University where she received her M.A. in College Student Development. Ashley has a passion for working with students and helping them to grow, develop, and reach their full potential. She started her UVA career in Housing & Residence Life and made the switch to 1515 in August 2017 and has truly loved her time there. In her spare time, she enjoys dancing, painting, and exploring this beautiful area of Virginia.

James, a native of Pittsburgh, PA (and of course a Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan), graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 2014 with a B.A. in Sociology and minor in Anthropology. While attending CWRU, James was highly involved with Student Activities, Greek Life, Orientation and Housing & Residence Life, which led him to discover the field student affairs.  Upon graduation James attended the University of South Carolina for his M.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs, where he worked primarily with the student programming board.  At UVA James works closely with the University Programs Council and Arts Board, in addition to supporting the growth of the After Hours programming initiative. In his spare time, he enjoys staying active through running, swimming, reading and cooking. Fun fact: He completed his first marathon in May 2017.

Originally from Virginia Beach, VA, Kelly graduated from UVA in 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Cognitive Science. While an undergrad at UVA, she was a Resident Advisor for two years and an active member of Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship. Now, she is excited to be back at UVA working in Student Engagement! Prior to this role, she worked as an Academic Advisor at American Public University System (APUS) in Manassas, VA, for almost two years, and then completed her Master’s degree in Higher Education & Student Affairs (HESA) at the University of South Carolina in May 2016. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, hiking, volunteering at church, and playing the violin with the Blue Ridge Chamber Orchestra.

Originally from Memphis, TN, Jasmine (she/her) graduated from Davidson College in 2015 with a B.A. in Anthropology. During her time at Davidson, she was involved with the Office of Residence Life and the student programming board sparking her love for cultivating memorable and engaging student experiences and for student affairs in general. After working for a year as the Evening Operations Manager for the Alvarez Student Union at Davidson, Jasmine completed her M.Ed. at Vanderbilt University in Higher Education Administration where she served as the Graduate Assistant for the Office of LGBTQI Life. In her downtime, Jasmine enjoys going to see live music, playing board games, and discussing anything related to superheroes or Harry Potter.

From Richmond, Virginia and recently graduated from James Madison University this past May with a B.F.A. in Studio Art. At her undergraduate institution, Kristen held leadership positions in Residence Life, volunteered with Alternative Break programs and programs for children with disabilities in the Harrisonburg community, played intramural ultimate frisbee, and was the President of Kappa Pi International Art Honors Fraternity. Currently, she is a student in UVA’s Master of Higher Education Administration program and is projected to graduate in May 2019. Outside of class and Student Engagement, Kristen enjoys hiking, yoga, camping, painting, travelling and she also started a small business making jewelry!
